Help me achieve my dream: finally becoming a homeowner
After almost 30 years of difficulties, I would finally like to rebuild my life.
My name is Thierry, I am French, and I am 56 years old.
I never imagined that one day I would have to appeal to the generosity of people I don't know. But today, I need a real helping hand to achieve a dream I have always had: finally having a home of my own and being able to devote myself to creativity.
At the age of 27, I took Roaccutane for a few mild acne problems.
At the time, I trusted medicine. I simply thought I was going to solve a skin problem and get on with my life.
But for me, things did not go as planned.
After that period, my health gradually deteriorated. Slowly, but surely.
The list of side effects on the leaflet was impressive. But I was young and naïve, and I trusted my doctor and the medical system.
I had everything I needed to be happy, but Roaccutane took that opportunity away from me, and ever since then:
Chronic depression, nervous-system problems, insomnia, OCD, tics and, above all, digestive problems, among other difficulties that eventually came to occupy an enormous place in my life.
(Psychiatric residential facilities.)
In my personal experience, the break is extremely clear: there was a before and an after Roaccutane.
All that for a few spots!
I know I am not the only victim. This treatment has caused a great deal of suffering, including countless suicides.
Today, the name of this medication has changed (Accutane = the molecule isotretinoin).
It is now given only for severe acne.
I had considered taking legal action, but it takes a great deal of energy for an uncertain result, especially without money, which is the key issue.
I thought I was doing something ordinary to improve my life, and instead I felt that little by little, my life was slipping away from me.
I was fortunate enough to receive a small disability allowance, but it is barely enough to survive.
My health problems have prevented me from working normally and building the stability I would have wanted.
They also clipped my wings on a personal level.
I did not build the family life I would have liked to have.
And telling a woman that I no longer work and receive a small disability allowance isn't exactly glamorous.
Being ill, and sometimes being perceived as a hypochondriac, is a double burden!
I was unable to achieve some of my dreams. And above all, I never managed to become a homeowner.
Yet this is something I have always deeply desired.
Today, I want to spread my wings again.
I still have dreams.
I still have ideas.
And above all, I still want to create.
For some time now, being creative and having the luxury of time, I have given myself a mission: to write a screenplay.
All these years of difficulties have been painful, but they have also given me depth, human experience and material that I would like to transform into something creative.
I want to use everything I have experienced to tell a story.
Maybe it will become a film.
Maybe it won't.
But I want to try.
My dream: becoming a homeowner in Italy
I would like to settle in Italy, near the French border, in an area where real estate is still much more affordable.
Small apartments can still be found there for around €50,000, depending on the area and the condition of the property.
For me, that would be extraordinary.
No longer simply being a tenant.
Having a home that belongs to me.
I am currently renting, and rents on the French Riviera are extremely expensive, which leaves me with very little money to live on.
Yet I am attached to this region, where I have a few good friends. Their friendship helps me keep going.
And above all, having a stable base from which I could finally devote myself to my creative project.
That is why I am asking you for a helping hand.
I am currently unable to work normally, and my resources are limited.
Nevertheless, I continue looking for solutions to improve my situation and get better. I have tried different forms of support and therapy over the years, which has also represented a significant financial cost.
But what I especially need today is security.
The security of knowing that I can have a roof over my head.
The security of no longer being obsessed with money every day.
The security that would allow me to put my energy elsewhere:
into my creativity, my screenplay and rebuilding my life.
I am not asking you to blindly believe my story.
I am simply asking you to believe that after almost thirty difficult years, I still want to try.
I want to finish this story on a positive note.
I don't want the final decades of my life to be defined solely by illness, difficulties and missed opportunities.
I would like to transform all of this into something positive.
I would like to get my wings back.
I would like to become a homeowner.
I would like to write.
I would like to create.
I would like to be able to look back and say to myself:
“Despite everything that happened to me, I did not let myself be defeated.”
I believe in God and in Jesus.
My faith almost certainly saved me from suicide.
I prayed a great deal during the periods when I could no longer really see a solution.
So this fundraiser represents something special to me.
It is a request for help, but it is also a prayer.
I still believe in my lucky star.
And today, I am appealing to yours.
Every contribution can help bring me closer to this dream.
€5, €20, €50, €100…
There is no such thing as a small gesture when someone is trying to rebuild their life.
And if you cannot contribute financially, simply sharing this fundraiser can already help me enormously.
My goal is simple:
Raise enough money to buy a small apartment in Italy, near the French border, and finally become a homeowner.
It would probably be one of the most beautiful gifts life could still give me.
And if you decide to help me make this dream come true, I will be sincerely grateful.
Thank you for reading my story.
Thank you for your trust.
And above all, thank you for this helping hand that could help me and give me wings.
Thierry
P.S.: For the sake of transparency, and so that this fundraising effort can be as sincere as possible, I can provide, if needed, official documentation confirming my disability status.
